Barn Cat Adoption Program: Chemical Free, Non Toxic Rodent and Pest Control

If you have a barn, stable, workshop, home and garden center, feed store or warehouse, you can save the life of a cat who has nowhere else to go!

We often have cats who cannot live as house pets. Cats in our barn cat program fall into one of three categories: Feral, Semi-Feral or Behavioral Issues.

• FERAL -- have never been touched by a human and therefore they are very scared of humans. These cats will need longer to acclimate and often have a higher chance they may not stay once released

• SEMI-Feral -- These cats may not seek affection from humans but are used to being around people. They are not typically aggressive unless cornered. Higher chance of staying on the property once released.

• Behavioral Issues - that make the cat unadoptable like aggressive overstimulation or inappropriate urination. Higher chance of staying on the property once released

Not just for barns!
The cats available for adoption through this program are referred to as “barn cats” because that is the most common housing option. However, there are many types of buildings that could provide a safe, happy home for one of these special cats. Perhaps you own a warehouse, a workshop, or a garage – as long as the cat(s) will be safe from vehicles and other common dangers, we are willing to consider creative locations!

You may be a homeless cat’s last chance:
Barn placement is the last chance at life for these cats. Without barn cat adopters, they have nowhere else to go. Having a barn cat or cats will help keep down the rodent population. The cats will be helping you, while you provide them a safe place to live. And, because these cats are already spayed or neutered, you won’t have to worry about endless litters of kittens appearing!

What we provide:
All barn cats adopted from Tender Loving Cats, Inc. are spayed/neutered prior to adoption as part of our mission to reduce the numbers of homeless cats and kittens on Long Island. All barn cats are vaccinated and if possible, microchipped. When you adopt a barn cat(s), we will walk you through how to acclimate your new cat(s) to their new surroundings and make them feel at home. There is NO adoption fee but donations are always appreciated to help us continue our mission . Tender Loving Cats, Inc. does not sell animals.

What you provide:
When you adopt a barn cat, you agree to give them:
• Shelter in a barn, outbuilding, or stable
• Daily food and water—cats cannot live on mousing alone
• Long-term emergency vet care if they become injured or sick (they’re already spayed/neutered and vaccinated)
• A secure place to keep them for the first 4-6 weeks, while they acclimate to their new home.

This can be a tack room or any secure enclosure from which they can not escape. We can lend you the appropriate supplies.
