When the local Animal Shelters and Rescues are full, many domesticated cats on Long Island, are often abandoned by their owners to live on the streets and not spayed/neutered. Feral cat trappers and colony caretakers come across an overwhelming abundance of stray cats and kittens that deserve to be rescued off the streets and adopted into loving homes.Tender Loving Cats, Inc. came from that need and with this goal in mind.
Founded in January 2017, Tender Loving Cats, Inc. is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit 501(c)(3), no-kill feline rescue concentrating on reducing Long Island's community cat population through Trap-Neuter-Return and the rehabilitation of homeless cats and kittens for adoption. As a part of this mission, all cats and kittens adopted from Tender Loving Cats, Inc. are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. We educate the public on the importance of Trap-Neuter-Return and work with colony caretakers to help them implement Trap-Neuter-Return in their communities.
In 2017 Tender Loving Cats, Inc (TLC) took in 143 cat/kitten(s) into our program and adopted out 102 of those cats & kittens. In 2018 we adopted out 300 cat/kitten(s) that were all rescued from the streets of Long Island, NY. In 2018 TLC spayed/neutered close to 150 feral cats for Trap-Neuter-Return and we did not take kittens from an area unless all the adults are spayed/neutered whenever possible. In 2019 we look forward to meeting that goal once more. In addition, we continue to take on many special needs cases of homeless cats & kittens that need medical care above and beyond the norm, including eye removal surguries, entropion eyelid surgeries, orthopedic hip surgery and many dental procedures to ensure that cats and kittens that were facing neglect as a result of living on the streets were made whole once more. All of our adoptable cat/kitten(s) are tested for FIV/FeLV, fully vaccinated up to and including rabies, fully de-wormed, spayed/neutered & microchipped. This would not be possible without YOU (our supporters, donors & volunteers) or without the local veterinarians who support our mission. We have come so far in such a short time because of their dedication to saving the lives of homeless cats & kittens on Long Island.
We want to especially thank Dr. Jason Mansfield & Staff at South Shore Animal Hospital, Dr. Alison Rhein, Dr. Suzanne Ravitz, Dr. Lindsay Whisher and the entire staff at Dix Hills Animal Hospital & the incredible Dr. John Berger, Tina Berger & staff at Long Island Spay & Neuter.
