Welcome to the Volunteers Information Page

We welcome all new volunteers who have decided to donate their time, energy and love to Tender Loving Cat, Inc. cat/kittens(s). Our main objectives here are to keep the cats healthy, safe and to get them adopted into good homes. Tender Loving Cat, Inc. is an all-volunteer run organization, many of whom have part or full-time jobs and who have learned to work together as a team to get an incredible amount of work done. We depend on donations, fundraisers and grants fund our programs and pay expenses but most importantly we depend on our volunteers for without you we are nothing. Please familiarize yourself with the variety of programs run by Tender Loving Cat, Inc. by viewing our web site: so that you can accurately advise the public when your asked questions about our organization.

It is important that every volunteer knows all aspects of the adoption center, from feeding the cat/kitten(s), giving medications to cat/kitten(s) and cleaning cages to showing cats to the public, taking applications and answering basic questions from the public. It’s important to refer the public to our information email address at info@tenderlovingcats.org or call 1-866-458-8228 (ILUVCATS) if you do not know the answer to a question, rather then giving someone incorrect information. You may decide that you are interested more in one area over another, but we all must work together cooperatively to achieve all daily tasks. If there are different areas you would like to get more involved in, please let us know.

We need at least 2 volunteers for each shift, the cat/kitten(s) rely on us to be there and there is much to do. If you feel like there is nothing to do, please ask an Adoption Center Coordinator and we can point you in the right direction to help us with additional tasks. Please ask questions about anything you are unsure of or want to know more about.

Some other things that we will need help with:

  • Transporting cats to/from vet’s appointments
  • Intake clinics, assisting with testing and vaccinations
  • Medical Team
  • Computer work on Word and/or Xcel
  • Volunteer scheduling & training
  • Cat records, cage card updating
  • Photographers for adoptable cat/kitten(s)
  • Lawyers
  • Accountants
  • Fostering of cat/kitten(s) at home
  • Socializing semi feral or very frightened cats
  • Trapping for TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) and Recovery
  • Adoption interviewing
  • Adoption reference checks
  • Adoption deliveries

Our Story

When the local Animal Shelters and Rescues are full, many domesticated cats on Long Island, are often abandoned by their owners to live on the streets and not spayed/neutered. Feral cat trappers and colony caretakers come across an overwhelming abundance of stray cats and kittens that deserve to be rescued off the streets and adopted into loving homes.
Tender Loving Cats, Inc. came from that need and with this goal in mind.
Founded in January 2017, Tender Loving Cats, Inc. is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit 501(c)(3), no-kill feline rescue concentrating on reducing Long Island's community cat population through Trap-Neuter-Return and the rehabilitation of homeless cats and kittens for adoption. As a part of this mission, all cats and kittens adopted from Tender Loving Cats, Inc. are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. We educate the public on the importance of Trap-Neuter-Return and work with colony caretakers to help them implement Trap-Neuter-Return in their communities. All Tender Loving Cats, Inc. relies on donations from the public to continue this life saving work.
By making a tax deductible donation you will be helping us “Rescue the Mistreated, Save the Injured and Love the Abandoned.”
