Luis & Louise get the medical attention they need and the furrever home they always wanted!

July 2018
‼️Breaking Mews‼️
Tender Loving Cats Inc. has received a $760.91 Emergency Medical Grant for Luis & Louise from The Petfinder Foundation. The Petfinder Foundation Emergency Medical Grant program is used to assist Petfinder members who are caring for a pet that needs special life-saving veterinary care in order to become adoptable.

Luis, and his sister Louise, were found outside by a young man but he was unable to care for them and found our rescue to take them in on April 19th, 2018. They were only 8 months old. Luis has some Siamese in his background as he has the classic wedge-shaped head, and Luis has the coat color and blue eyes of a Siamese. Luis was fortunate to come to our rescue, as he was born with eyelid agenesis, which is a congenital defect of the upper and lower eyelid, and required surgery to correct and make Luis more comfortable and able to see. The surgery was successfull! But after the surgery he was then doagnosised with a rare bacterial infection called clostridium. Thankfully, after being treated him and his sister were feeling better and they were ready to take the trip to Newtown, PA where they found their furrever home, together!!! It cost us over $1,300 to provide these two kittens the medical care they needed but thanks to all who donated towards their care are The Petfinder Foundation we can continue to rescue cats & kittens like Luis & Louise!

The Petfinder.com Foundation assists the 12,000+animalshelters and rescue groups that post their adoptable pets on Petfinder.com. A nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, the Petfinder Foundation helps adoption organizations find homes for the pets in their care through its Sponsor A Pet, Disaster Fund, Quality of Life and other programs. Since its founding in 2003, the Petfinder Foundation has given more than $20 million in cash and product grants to shelters and rescue groups in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Edit: We have reached our goal to help Luis see!!! Stay tuned for updates on him and his sister Louise!!! Prayers have been answered!!! 😻💞🙏🐾

“Luis” is going blind and he needs your help! Tender Loving Cats took in “Luis” & his sister “Louise” because their rescuer could no longer care for the 8 month old siblings. Both have colds but Luis needed to be seen by a doctor ASAP as his eyes could barely open. It turns out this poor boy has been living the last 8 months of his life in excruciating pain. He has a rare genetic condition called ‘Eyelid Agenesis’. This is a congenital disorder in which the eyelid doesn’t form properly during development within the womb. While rare, it is the most common congenital eyelid disorder found in cats. The function of the eyelid is to protect the eye from drying out and trauma. The lower portion of the eyelid has the eyelashes, which point away from the face, however with agenesis, due to the absence or of an eyelid margin, the remaining skin around the eye has fur, which can rub against the delicate cornea. Without the full eyelid, the eye is exposed to debris from the environment, rubbing, tears will not be able to properly spread across the eyeball, all of which leads to pain, discomfort, and damage. We received a quote of $3,000 for this this surgery at a local specialty center. It’s a shocking estimate but we can’t let this sweet kitten suffer any longer. As we prepared to try and raise the $3,000 needed to have the surgery done last night an amazing surgeon on Long Island stepped up and offered to do it for $500!!! We are in total awe of his kindness. Please help us raise the $500 needed to help Luis get the Eyelid Agenesis sugary he so desperately needs. If you’ve been following us on Facebook you know that’s we’ve taken on some tough cases over these last few weeks, including a hoarding case of over 30 cats & the “Holtsville 5” that has drained much needed funds. Tender Loving Cats, Inc. is an all volunteer, not-for-profit 501(c)(3), no-kill feline rescue, concentrating on reducing Long Island's community cat population through trap-neuter-return and rehabilitation of homeless cats and kittens for adoption.
